In my junior year of high school i built a trebuchet for a physics project. I did not do a good job. So for my CoRE project I worked on improving this trebuchet. Several of the problems that I took steps to remedy were, 1, when the trebuchet originally fired, the counterweight would hit the ground and cause the trebuchet to lose much of the power from the shot this was solved by raising the frame and thereby raising the axle and allowing the counterweight to swing freely. Another problem was that the original design did not have a release pin meaning that firing it was a not an easy task since the operator would be hard pressed to pull their arm away without getting in the way of the shot. I remedied this by adding a release pin so that the user can simply pull on a string to fire the trebuchet. Another problem is the fact that I did not originally use a unified axle, this is changed by adding in a metal axle inside of the original PVC axle. At the moment, this is about all that I have done to improve the functionality of the trebuchet, however, in the future I plan to use this as a prototype to build a better trebuchet and perhaps change to the design to a more efficient one (such as a floating arm trebuchet).
