I entered the field of Computer Science through the back door. My first degree was in Political Science, from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. In the years after graduation I completed two Masters degrees, one in Teaching of Social Studies from Columbia University and one in African Studies from UCLA. I also taught, at the high school level and community college level, subjects ranging from physical education to British Commonwealth History to American Government to Afro-American History in places ranging from New Jersey to Massachusetts to Lagos, Nigeria. In the early 1970's I made the transition to Computer Science by joining the graduate program which was part of Binghamton University's School of Advanced Technology. Upon graduation I became part of the fledgling Computer Science Department's faculty. I have been part of the Watson School since its founding in 1985 and served as the Program Coordinator and as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science until 2005 when I retired. I continue to teach and to coordinate the dual-diploma Information Systems program. I have lived in the Binghamton area since 1972 and raised a family which is now spread across the country from Boston, Massachusetts to Bellingham, Washington.
